Personal Placing: 3, 2, 1, 4
Official Placing:
3, 2,
1, 4
Cuts:
3, 4, 5
General Notes
1
Darker color, smooth front, uniform depth
Steep hip; lightest muscled ewe in class
2 Darker color: Leveler hip than 1 or 4, thick, deep bodied ewe
More coarse than 3 up front
3 Hamp
influence: Most complete, attractive
4 Hamp
look: Thick, expressive muscle, crisp fronted
Do not care for the loin/hip transition from profile shot, steep
hip, really does not balance correctly and is not being shown to her
best advantage
Starting this class with the Hampshire appearing ewe that is the most
level out her hip and with the most attractive profile being balanced
throughout, I preferred the alignment 3, 2, 1, 4 in this class of ewe
lambs.

Hampshire X |
(1st hind) |
The two most fault free lambs rise to the top
of this class of well-muscled ewes. The balance and
uniformity of depth of body displayed by the ewe with the
most prominent wool socks places her over the darkest
colored ewe in the top pair. 3 is especially higher in her
dock and is not tucked up in her rear flank as much as 2. 3
is also more feminine being cleaner through her neck.

(2nd hind) |
While 2 is a broody appearing ewe with
capacity and spring of rib, she is not as high in her dock
set nor as attractive on the profile for the show ring in
the photo.
Still in a middle pair of darker fibered
ewes, the power and more correct skeletal set through the
hip places 2 over 1. 2 is certainly the ewe with more
volume of muscle through the leg and is leveler from hooks
to pins.

(3rd hind) |
While the extension and longer/cleaner neck
of 1 is appreciated, she is the lightest muscled ewe in the
class and one of the pair of steeper hipped lambs with
skeletal problems.
In the pair of ewe with skeletal issues that
sort them into the bottom pair, I preferred the leveler top
and general soundness of 1 over 4.

Fourth Place: 4

(4th hind) |
While 4 is a heavier muscled ewe with more
substance of bone, I greatly fault her for the severe
appearance in the photo for breaking down from her loin
back. Viewing what promises to be a great lamb when looking
at the front of the photo turns into a lamb that shows too
much potential for serious skeletal flaws being roach topped
and steep hipped. Most distressing is the fact that the
underline stays level all the way into the rear flank while
that break exists. This animal would need to be see on the
move to give any notion to moving her up today.
Judges note: Regarding 4, this does not
appear to be a case where a top can be pinched down and make
the animal “level out.” The lamb’s rear legs are not
underneath the animal. This lamb would have to have the
rear legs stretched out immensely and the front legs much
too far forward to even out this lamb.
