Market Lambs 111-120 lbs.

Class number:  013        Class Date:  7/28/07

Judge:   Larry Carter

Judging Contest Winner:  DC

Official Placing: 4, 2, 1, 3

Cuts:  3, 1, 1

I place this class 4, 2, 1, 3    The cuts for class 013 are  3, 1, 1.

In evaluating this set of four lambs, we're challenged with some differences in type as well as presentation.  I believe lambs should be presented in a manner that follows the style seen in a show.  Exhibitors please consider if you don't think a picture truly represents your sheep please take some more photos and select the best.

Again the cuts are 3, 1, 1.  Anyone could easily switch pairs in this set and make a good case for their choices.  In the interest of furthering the evaluation skills of our participants, I will say none of these four would be competitive at the shows I've judged or attended this year.

First Place:  4

Entry number:  082

Exhibitor:  2TLivestock

State:  NE

Sheep name/number:  Goldie

Breed:  Suffolk/Hampshire

In our class of 111 to 120 pound market lambs I place our 4 lamb first.  I'm quite aware that the shape out the dock and pin location is not the preferred pattern  but given his overall balance of muscle and style I must use him to win this class.

Second Place:  2

Entry number:  075

Exhibitor:  Lukey2

State:  OH

Sheep name/number:  Lamont

Breed:  Cross

2  follows our class winner  as second place. This lamb could have easily won the class had it been set up correctly  to show that top width and more correct rump structure than our class winner.  As pictured the front appears a bit too prominent  and the overall length is hidden with the rear legs too far under the lamb and no brace evident.  Outside of presentation the most obvious fault is those weak pasterns.

Third Place:  1

Entry number:  081

Lamb 1 follows in third place . This blue wether is pleasing in profile with a good length of body.  I believe this lamb is too narrow down the top, lacks depth in the twist and rolls off the dock too much to stand higher in the class.

Fourth Place:  3

Entry number:  080

Our fourth place lamb is lamb number 3.  To me this lamb is too narrow, frail structured, and too light in muscle to place higher.
