For our class 033 ram lambs 5 to 11 months I place them   4, 2, 3, 1 with cuts of   3, 2, 4.

This is an interesting class to evaluate.  We have some variation in type and style and some serious structure issues to consider.  To my mind ram lambs must be sorted with future breeding value the prime factor.

First Place:  4

Entry number:  178

Exhibitor:  Karin4005

State:  CA

Sheep name/number:  Goodwin

Breed:  Suffolk/Hampshire

I started the class with the 4 lamb.  He is the most desirable in terms of soundness on his legs and has the base width and muscle pattern we look for. I fault this buck lamb as being somewhat too bold in the shoulders, possibly on the small end of acceptable scrotal circumference, and a bit shorter  necked than I'd like, but overall a pleasing patterned type of lamb.

Second Place:  2

Entry number:  134

Exhibitor:  cwsmith

State:  OR

Sheep name/number:  Timber

Breed:  Hampshire

In second we have the long bodied  2 ram lamb in his working clothes.  I really appreciate this lamb for that length of body, the smooth, well laid in shoulders, correct chest floor, and leg structure.  I would like to see the neck coming out of the top of the shoulders, heavier bone in those rear legs, and the ram present himself leveler in his topline (a ram should appear up headed and level on his own, unbraced).

Third Place:  3

Entry number:  145

In a closer middle pair I place the 3 lamb in the third hole.  I really appreciate this ram lamb's neck set, neat chest floor, and excellent design in the front third. To my mind where he falls behind our top two lambs is his shape over the loin and a rounder pattern out the hip and pins. While not extreme he also hocks in too much to place higher.

Fourth Place:  1

Entry number:  113

Our 1 lamb easily finds his way to the bottom of this class.  The poor shape over the loin, rough hip, lack of muscle in the rear legs and all four legs off are more than enough to offset the elegance in the front third.
