Official Placing: 3, 2, 4, 1
Cuts: 5, 4, 1
I placed
this class 3, 2, 4, 1. I think this class breaks down easily into
a top pair 3 and 2, middle pair 2 and 4 and bottom pair 4 and 1. The
biggest decision for me was which lamb in the bottom pair, 4 and 1, do I
place at the bottom of the class, because I found major flaws with both
lambs. |
First Place: 3

name/number: Pokey

It was an easy decision to start the class with lamb 3. I
thought this medium framed lamb was the most balanced lamb
in the class with level top and bottom lines and I found him
to be structurally correct. He appears clean in the
brisket, wide through the chest floor, and brings the width
all the way back. Even though he stands close together
on the back legs I believe it is due to being on the
blocking stand. He appears to be wide and square over the
rack and loin. He has a long, level hip, is square through
the dock, and has good depth of twist with a lot of inner
muscle and shows a lot of muscle expression through the
stifle. He shows excellent length of side. I would
like to clean him up in the middle, however, I believe this
lamb is correct in his finish.

I believe lamb 2 falls into second place rather easily. I
would like to lengthen and level his hip, however he does
have adequate depth of twist and shows adequate muscle
through the leg. He is adequate in width and squareness
over the rack and loin. Although he is overly
stretched out in the photo, I believe he is adequate in
length from flank to flank. He is also correct in his
finish.

The most difficult placing for me was the bottom pair, 4 and
1 These two lambs have major flaws and are completely
opposite in type.
I placed 4 over 1 because I found less flaws in this lamb.
Lamb 4 is a medium framed lamb that is narrow over the rack,
has a short sloping hip, is pinched in the pins, shallow in
the twist and is round in her leg muscle but to me she still
places over lamb 1.

Fourth Place: 1
Entry number:

Lamb 1 is a medium framed lamb that is overly finished and
really lacking in muscle and it's because of this extra
finish and lack of muscle that I placed this lamb last in
this class. He is short hipped, does have adequate
depth of twist (because of the over-finish), but does not
show any muscle through the stifle and is really coarse
through the shoulder. He does not have the style that
I am looking for in a market class.
Again, I placed class 035, market lambs 3, 2, 4, 1 with cuts
of 5, 4, 1.
