It
should be that in a finished market class you have each animal
representing an acceptable level of muscle, cover, and structure to
produce a quality carcass on the rail. In a showring, these lambs
should also have the confirmation and overall appeal to catch your eye
with the pleasing look that sets them apart. Note that there is an
order for these things and in this class that is a must to remember.
Starting this class with the lamb that dominates in terms of his
qualities as a meat animal and a show animal, I chose the alignment 4,
3, 1, 2 in this class of market lambs. |
First Place: 4
Entry number:
256
Exhibitor:
wyomingsuffolkluver
State: WY
Sheep
name/number: Ludacris
Breed:
Suffolk/Hampshire |
|
4 is strong, level-topped wether that has a thick leg and
sets down with natural base width. 3 simply cannot compete
with the showring look, level hip, and natural base width
that we find in 4.
|
Second Place: 3
Entry number:
249
Exhibitor:
hcls
State: TX
Sheep
name/number: Dale
Breed:
Crossbred |
|
However 3 sorts over 1 in the closest pair in the class for
his strength and levelness of top. 1 may be the heavier
muscled lamb of the pair given the shape through the leg
with more true muscle given the flatter shape when viewing 3
from behind. But 1 belongs in the pair of easy topped
lambs.
|
Third Place: 1
Entry number:
217
|
|
1 places over 2 in the bottom pair for his obvious advantage
in muscle volume and shape. 1 is the wider structured,
thicker-legged lamb in the pair that should hang a carcass
with more total pounds of saleable product.
|
Fourth Place: 2
Entry number:
239 |
|
While 2 is a long sided lamb, this lamb is the lightest
muscled when viewed from behind and cut up in his flank.
