Crystal, thanks for submitting a great class of uniform sized ewes with some differences, yet all of good quality.

First Place:  3

Exhibitor:  EmsoffLambs

Sheep name/number:  159

Breed:  Suffolk/Hampshire X

I choose to initiate the class with 3, without a doubt the most complete ewe lamb in class.  She is the long sided, level docked ewe with enough look to her to go on and impress most judges.  In addition she is one of the thicker if not the thickest made ewe that I predict to get better with age and go on and make a great market prospect.

Second Place:  1

Entry number:  312

Exhibitor:  EmsoffLambs

State:  CA

Sheep name/number:  154

Breed:  Suffolk/Hampshire X

1 is very similar in terms of length of body and lateness of maturity, however I read her as being more round off both ends of her skeleton, more specifically more round through the point of her shoulder, and rolling off in her dock somewhat more than 3.  Nevertheless, in relation to 4, she is more parallel in her lines, appears to be stronger and more level right behind her blades, and simply has more balance and eye-appeal.

Third Place:  4

Entry number:  315

I'll be the first to admit that 4 should turn out to be the heavier muscled of the pair and appears to be more powerfully constructed, she just does not balance up as well as the two in the top pair, so I choose to leave her third.  Still it is her advantages in muscle that sorts her over 2 in the bottom.  She appears to be fuller and flatter over her loin edges, bigger through her upper dock and stouter in her skeleton than 2.

Fourth Place:  2

Entry number:  313

Certainly 2 is the greenest, lightest conditioned ewe in class which gives her a disadvantage at this point, and I appreciate her length and levelness of design on the profile.  However from the photos she appears to be the narrowest down her top and lightest muscled through her lower leg.  It is going to take more time and feed for her to fill in through her hip-loin juncture as well as the top three, and I simply see her as needing more time on feed to be as appealing of a prospect as the others based on the photos.

Again Crystal, a nice class of quality ewe lambs.  I like them 3, 1, 4, 2 with cuts of 3, 4, 2.
