Official Placing: 3, 2, 1, 4
Cuts:
2, 2, 6
In a
class with four sheep that differ quite a bit, I decided to base this
placing on which one I had rather feed and send into the ring based on
what they look like in the photos and making some adjustments for length
of wool and presentation. With that said, I like them 3, 2, 1, 4 with
cuts of 2, 2, 6. The easiest thing to do is find 4 bottom and then it
gets interesting from there. |

I opt to start the longer sided white pelted wether.
Although 3 appears somewhat green down his top and I would
definitely like to see him tie smoother at the hip-loin
juncture, he is simply the most ideal lamb in class in
regards to muscle, frame size, and lateness of maturity. In
comparison to 2 he is longer necked, cannoned, and sided,
indicating that he would better grow and maintain his
trimness to heavier weights and go to the rail with a longer
higher percentage of hindsaddle. As a bonus he is slightly
leveler out of his dock and appears to be bigger hipped than
2.

There is no doubt that 2 appears to be the most ideal in his
finish at this point and the most expressive down his top.
He is simply to short and compact for me to start the class
with him. Nevertheless, here is a stout constructed heavy
muscled wether that is probably the most ideal if looking
for a light weight type of lamb. He certainly ties his neck
into a smoother, flatter shoulder than 1, is more level and
square out of his dock, and fuller and plumper through the
lower and center portion of his leg. Consequently he is the
lamb if railed today that would excel in both uniformity of
condition and muscle mass as well.

The larger of the two dark fibered wethers is extremely wide
based and may grow to be the pounds heavy, higher yielding
lamb of the pair, however as presented appears both lighter
finished and muscled of the two, and more disproportioned
than the top two.
Still there is no contest when compared to 4. 1 is the
better balanced, cleaner fronted, more structurally correct
of the concluding duo. In addition he is longer sided,
deeper twisted and squarer ended.

4 is probably the pounds heavy lamb in class, and the ewe is
deep ribbed and very capacious. However as a market lamb
this is where her advantages end, as in reality most of her
added weight is coming from extra condition at this point of
maturity, and coarseness of design rather than more
desirable distribution of muscle. She is heavy fronted in
relation to her flank and leg, shallow twisted, and simply
plain and nondescript in her muscle pattern, so I find her a
logical bottom.
