15-18: Dustydivider

Over 18: sheepherder007

Official Placing: 3, 4, 1, 2
Cuts: 2, 3, 2

To me this class breaks down into an obvious top pair, 3 and 4, middle pair, 4 and 1, and an obvious bottom pair, 1 and 2. This is a really good class to evaluate because there are some challenges in sorting through the class. I placed the class 3-4-1-2 with cuts of 2-3-2

First Place:  3

Entry number: 962

Exhibitor: Shoein

State: TX

Sheep name/number: PIB X Kool Kat

Breed: Hampshire/club lamb

Website: www.cockburncorleyclublambs.com

In starting the class with 3 I’m placing the obvious power lamb of the class at the top. From the profile I appreciate his style, balance, and shape of muscle. His neck which is moderate in length is placed squarely on top of his shoulder. For a power lamb he is clean in the brisket with obvious width to his chest floor and he carries this width to the rear. He is clean at the points. I would not want him any deeper in his shoulder, however, compared to the hip/loin juncture traveling down to the top of the rear flank he is balanced. He is very correct in fullness of rib and rear flank and he stands very correct on his feet and legs. His massive forearm suggest a massive rack and loin and from the rear that holds true. When comparing him to the other lambs in the class he is the stoutest over the rack and loin of any lamb in the class and his width through the pins, through the center of the leg and depth of twist and stifle overpowers the second place lamb in the class. He is an excellent lamb to start the class with and should yield a high quality carcass.

Second Place:  4

Entry number: 965

Exhibitor: 1AnimalCrazyKid

State: TX

Sheep name/number: Stiff Neck

Breed: Medium Wool

Number 4 is a well balanced lamb that has eye appeal with a lot of superior traits. From the profile the long extended neck is squarely placed on top of the shoulder. This lamb is extremely clean in the brisket/shoulder region. I would like to see him bolder through the rib and fuller in the rear flank. He is long sided lamb that has length of both rack and hindsaddle, however, I would like to raise him a notch at the dock. From the rear his length will get your attention, however, his flatness of rib shape is evident. He does have the wedge shape I appreciate and is deep through the twist with an abundance of stifle muscle, just not as pronounced or a square as my first place lamb, number 3. His leanness of muscle suggest a high dressing percent. a good overall prospect.

Third Place:  1

Entry number: 884

I believe lamb 1 fits easily in the third spot. He does have power and muscle, but he’s coarse through the shoulder and too short sided compared to the two lambs placing above him. He is wide and flat over the rack and loin and is deepin th twist, wide through the pins, however, his lack of length was the deciding factor as to where he placed in the class. The two lambs placing above him also have more style and balance. .OG

Fourth Place:  2

Entry number: 903

In dropping 2, the ewe lamb, to the bottom of the class I do want to point out she has a long level top line with a correctly placed extended neck, is very clean through the shoulder and shows some boldness to her rib shape and fullness in rear flank. She does tend to slope slightly off her dock. From the profile I would like to see more evidence of fullness of muscle in her lower leg. From the rear she appears square through the pins with moderate depth of twist. She is sound in her feet and legs.

Again, I placed the class 3-4-1-2 with cuts of 2-3-2 Comments concerning the class are welcomed and appreciated..
