Official Placing: 2-1-4-3
Cuts: 1-2-3

This is a competitive class of market weight lambs that will sure cause you to think before making your final placing, however, I see the class placing 2-1-4-3 with cuts of 1-2-3.

First Place:  2

Entry number: 935

Exhibitor: tiler

State: IA

Sheep name/number: X007

Breed: Crossbred

I see lamb 2 as the most complete, balanced, excellent profiling lamb of the class that should hang a correctly finished carcass. I appreciate the extended neck correctly placed that blends in with the top of the shoulder. This lamb has length of rack, loin, and hip. Sure, I would like to raise the dock about an inch o level out the hip. 2 is very clean at the points, wide through the chest floor and brings the width to the rear. I would appreciate this lamb a tad more with a little less depth of chest, however, you sometimes find a little extra depth when evaluating thick, muscular power lambs. 2 is sure acceptable in rib shape and fullness of rear flank.

From the rear he is wide and flat over the rack and loin and shows evidence of depth at the loin edge. He is square through the dock, deep in his twist and has a very muscular leg. 2 is the type of lamb that should be competitive in class at a show of any level.

Second Place:  1

Entry number: 921

Exhibitor: ARlambs

State: AR

Sheep name/number: 1135

Breed: Hampshire

In placing 1 second in class and over the ewe lamb, number 4, I’m going with a very thick meaty lamb that looks to handle fresh with a very correct finish for this weight lamb. From the profile I appreciate the extended neck squarely placed. He has length of rack, loin, and is the longest hipped lamb of the class. He is extra clean at the points for a massive power type lamb, however, I would like to raise his chest floor. He has a properly designed and shaped rib and fullness in the rear flank.

From the rear he shows evidence of width over the rack and loin, depth at loins edge, and is square through the dock with depth of twist. He does seem a little flat through his stifle. He stands correctly on his feet and legs and he too is a very competitive market weight lamb.

Third Place:  4

Entry number: 1035
State: TX
Sheep name/number: Wildflower tag 17
Breed: Mediumwool

The blue ewe lamb placing third in the class will surely get your attention when you first view her on the profile. Although the rear picture is distorted, the profile view is certainly clear and distinct. The long neck squarely placed will get your attention, however, as I travel down her long rack and get to her loin that is where she starts dropping in the class. She is rough at the juncture, shows evidence of being washed over the loin and she is sure too low at loin’s edge which suggest a structural weakness to me. Her rib shape looks okay from the distorted rear shot, however, from the profile she looks to flat ribbed and to high in the rear flank. She appears short in her hip length compared to the other lambs in the class. She does appear to have depth of twist, is square through the dock and has a muscular leg. I believe she would place higher in class if she was fresher in her handle, more correct in her rib shape and shown less stretched out.

Fourth Place:  3

Entry number: 981

The carcass lamb of the class stands fourth. I would like to see more length of his neck, rack, loin and hip because he is certainly the shortest lamb in the class in these areas. This will not hurt him hanging on the rail, however, it sure will in live show ring competition. He is certainly acceptable at the points, has correct depth of shoulder, and is very correct in rib shape and fullness of rear flank. From the rear he is square through the dock, deep in the twist, with a very muscular leg. He does not have the style, length, and show ring presence of the other three lambs in the class.

Again, I placed the class 2-1-4-3 with cuts of 1-2-3. Your comments are appreciated. OG
