In a top pair of wider based stouter constructed lambs, it is the ewe lamb’s balance and eye appeal that allows her to edge out the really powerful 4. Ideally the class winner could be smoother at her hip-loin juncture and fuller out of her upper dock. Still in a close decision over 4, she is better constructed through her front end, as she is neater through the floor of her chest, ties her neck smoother into the top of her shoulder and blends better at the point of her shoulders. In addition to her being equally as thick over her rack and loin as the wether, she is squarer and more correct off her hind two, and appears to be plumper and fuller in her lower inside leg, and should prove to place more consistently in the showring under different judges.

Some may prefer the added ruggedness of skeleton and turn to 4’s ribcage. He is simply too short necked and bold fronted for a 100 pounder for me to start the class with. In addition, in the rear photo he appears to want to park with his rear legs up underneath him and rolls off in his dock.
Still he easily follows the ewe lamb in regards to base width and his ability to maintain that advantage to the top of his skeleton. 4 is wider everywhere you would get your hands on him and specifically measures with more dimension of rack, loin and center leg and will eventually rail more total lbs of product than either of the two remaining wethers.

In an extremely close pair of very similarly designed lambs, I prefer the rib design and levelness from hooks-pins in 1 over 3 in the concluding pair. Both of these lambs need to be wider based and fuller through their lower leg, however 1 is fuller in his flank, fresher appearing down his top and over his loin edge and more elevated in his dock. As a bonus I am certain when put on the move, he would better maintain his levelness of top and track and place his hind two more correctly.

3 is equally as deep twisted and may have a little more tone and expression through the center of his leg and is quite possibly the longest hindsaddled in the class. Unfortunately he is the flattest ribbed, highest flanked wether that reads to be the narrowest down his top and is the least dynamic in his look from the side. In addition although he has had an awfully good tail job, he truly drops from his hooks to pins and from the set to his rear leg, I would expect him to track pretty narrow, come up under himself while on the move
