I am starting this class of medium-heavy weight lambs with 2, the lamb that best combines balance, structure, eye appeal and muscle. He has a great hip shape and a natural muscle pattern to his leg with plenty of depth of twist.

While admitting 1 is the most eye appealing, trimmest lamb in the class, he doesn’t have the natural thickness or power to go overcome number 2. Yet he is fresher appearing and nicer balanced than 4.

I realize 4 is the heaviest muscled lamb in the class, but he is to coarse in his muscle pattern, roaches up in his loin, and appears shorter sided than the lambs above him. This prevents him from going higher today. However, he easily places over 3 in the bottom pair.

I admire the ewe lamb, 3, for her overall volume of muscle, but she appears wasty middled and not as trim as the lambs above her.
