Official Placing: 1-2-4-3
Cuts: 2-1-3
If I was judging this class as a prospect class I would be tempted to switch my top pair, however, these lambs fit the weight and description of a market class and that’s how I’m lining them up. I see the class placing 1-2-4-3 with cuts of 2-1-3.

In starting the class with 1, I’m starting with the most complete lamb in the class. This medium framed structurally correct heavy muscled power lamb is long and level in its top line with proper depth of shoulder, clean at the points, correct rib shape and fullness in the rear flank.
From the rear 1 is superior to each lamb in the class in width and flatness over the rack, loin, and has a long hip that shows depth of twist accompanied with superior muscle through the stifle and lower third. This lamb also stands correct on its feet and legs with ample bone. True, I would like for this ewe lamb to be a little more up-fronted with a longer extended neck sitting on top of the shoulder, but, as a market ready lamb it rises to the top of the class.

For me 2 is the problem lamb of the class because from the second picture, which is supposed to be the rear view, but more of a three fourths picture, this lamb is the most attractive lamb in the class, especially on the profile. When viewing the first picture, which is supposed to be a profile picture, I do not see this being the case. However, the second picture shows a lamb that that is up-fronted with a long extended neck that’s squarely placed. He is tucked in the front with the proper amount of depth, but, a little round at the points but still acceptable. He appears long and level in the rack, loin, and hip, with some shape to the rib and fullness of rear flank. He has more eye appeal than the first plae lamb, but, when you compare the two for the width and flatness over the rack and loin, he does not compare and that’s why he is placed second in the class.

The middle pair, 2 and 4 is a close placing. 4 is certainly a nice profiling market lamb that has the extended neck squarely placed. She is long and level in the rack and loin with a slight slope off the hip. I would appreciate 4 more with a little less depth of shoulder, however, she does have acceptable balance, is clean at the points with a clean smooth brisket with appropriate shape to the rib and fullness in rear flank.
The deciding factor for me to drop her to third in the class was from the rear I do not see the depth of twist and width through the pins as the second place lamb, number 2. She also looks flat through the stifle and is lacking in muscle in the lower third.

The finewool lamb, 3, places fourth in the class. This lamb does not have the overall smoothness, balance, eye appeal, length of primal cuts to compete with the other three lambs in the class, however, this lamb will hang a good carcass.
Again, I placed the class 1-2-4-3 with cuts of 2-1-3
