Official Placing: 4-2-3-1
Cuts: 3-5-2

I placed the class 4-2-3-1 with cuts of 3-5-2.

First Place:  4

Entry number: 1287

Exhibitor: EmsoffLambs

State: CA

Sheep name/number: Emsoff 252

Breed: Hampshire X

Website: www.emsofflivestockcompany.com

4 is the most structurally correct brood ewe prospect in the class and she has the longest spine of the class and she is also the levelest in her top side with the longest level hip of the four. She has an excellent profile highlighted with a feminine head, long neck which sits on top of the shoulder and is super clean at the points, through the shoulder with correct depth of front.

From the rear she has the round rib that is required in wether dams today and has the desired fullness of the rear flank. This moderate plus framed ewe lamb stands correct on her feet and legs with ample bone. I would like to see a little more width and squareness over the rack and loin, however, due to her frame size she will develop in these areas as she matures. She shows width at the pins with moderate depth of twist.

Although she is not the power ewe lamb of the class, she is more than adequate in muscle. She is just a good prospect.

Second Place:  2

Entry number: 1281

Exhibitor: Chuckles450

State: UT

Sheep name/number: 3006

Breed: Hampshire

The easiest placing in the class is the middle pair, 2 and 3, with 2 easily winning second in the class. 2 is the power ewe prospect of the class. The reason she places second behind 4 is she is not as correct in skeletal structure as the first place ewe lamb. From the profile I would like to add length to her neck, spine, and hip which also needs to be raised and leveled out. She does look clean at the points, however, she is the shortest sided sheep in the class.

From the rear she is the most correct in rack and loin shape of the four. She stands correct on her feet and legs and she is the deepest in the twist and thickest through the lower third of the four. Bred to a ram that will add stretch to her spine she will raise competitive lambs.

Third Place:  3

Entry number: 1283

The bottom pair, 3 and 1 do not match the top pair in quality. 3 places third because she has fewer negatives than 1. She has less structural problems than 1. She shows balance and length and her long neck is squarely placed and she is clean at the points.

From the rear is is too flat ribbed, shallow in the twist and lacks muscle in the lower third. She needs to be more blown apart especially through the rib cage, rack, loin, and pins.

Fourth Place:  1

Entry number: 1245

1 places fourth in the class because she is the least feminine of the four. She has more structural problems of the four and she is too round at the points, is to deep fronted, slopes off the dock and to flat sided, narrow ribbed, narrowed racked, loin, pins lacking muscle in the lower third.

Again, I placed the class 4-2-3-1 with cuts of 3-5-2 Comments concerning the class are always appreciated and I’All see you in 2014. Happy Holidays to you and yours. OG
