Official Placing:  3, 1, 2, 4

Cuts:  4, 2, 7

The clean-fronted, wide-structured lamb wins the class that I placed 3, 1, 2, 4.

First Place:  3

Entry number:  143

Exhibitor:  kyhampbreeder

State:  KY

Sheep name/number:  none

Breed:  Hampshire

Starting with the 3 lamb that appears to have a very wide, muscular top with a good handle and appropriate finish for this weight, I found it to be an easy top.  The Hampshire-influenced wether appears to be longer sided and leveler topped than the second place lamb.

Second Place:  1

Entry number:  133

Exhibitor:  meagantheFFAer

State:  TX

Sheep name/number:  Snuffy

Breed:  Suffolk/Hampshire

In a closer middle pair of lambs, I’m choosing to go with a lamb that has a more defined muscle pattern that would appear to handle somewhat firmer than our third place ewe lamb.  Although apparently one of the shorter-sided lambs in the class, 1 excels in muscle definition and overall mass.  I would expect this lamb to open a carcass with a larger eye and a superior yield grade to 2.

Third Place:  2

Entry number:  135

I like the ewe lamb for the balance of structure and top that is similar to my class winner.  However, 2 is definitely not shown to her fullest advantage and does not show the muscle definition of our second place lamb.  She also appears to be the heaviest conditioned lamb with a deep middle and more fat deposited around her tail head.

Still in an easy bottom pair, 2 places over 4 for her advantages in muscle and correctness of structure.  She is especially thicker through the leg and leveler over the top than 4.

Fourth Place:  4

Entry number:  146

The narrowest structured, lightest muscled lamb in the class that is the most cut up in the rear flank is the easiest choice for the bottom of this class.  As the rough-topped, weak-racked lamb with the most concern for the transition from the loin to the hip, 4 must place last.
