Official Placing:  1, 2, 3, 4

Cuts:  2, 4, 2

Sorry the official placing is late online judgers.  I just got back from a 3 week stint on the road attending the San Antonio and San Angelo Shows.

We have a nice two pair class of Southdown wethers to sort this week.

First Place:  1

Entry number:  131

Exhibitor:  Holliterman87

State:  TX

Sheep name/number:  Fritz 196

In close pair of lambs that differ quite a bit, I choose to use the thicker more powerfully constructed 1.  I realize ideally he could be longer and more extended through his neck and front end.  Still it is his added width over his rack and loin, fuller, plumper leg and added width of skeleton that allows him to place over 2 in the initial pair.  When railed he should produce the most shapely carcass with the highest % cutout.

Second Place:  2

Entry number:  394

Exhibitor:  Shelbysue

State:  OH

Sheep name/number:  Jasper

2 is certainly the better balanced more eye appealing lamb that is deeper twisted. Unfortunately this lamb is flat in his rib shape, narrower down his top and appears to be somewhat raftered over his rack.   These faults aside, he is still the other high quality nice designed lamb in the class.  2 is wide and full over his loin edges and longer and leveler out of his dock than the more powerfully constructed 3.  As a bonus due to his added trimness, he should hang the higher % of red meat.

Third Place:  3

Entry number:  420

3 is definitely a heavy muscled lamb that is wide and full through the center of his stifle, however I read him as heavier in his condition, deeper chested, and he rolls more out of his dock than the top two.

In the bottom pair of heavier conditioned lambs, I like 3 over 4.   3 has an advantage in muscle that cannot be overlooked.  More specifically he is wider, fuller, and fresher down his topline, and better maintains this added width out through is upper dock and carries that fullness down to the lower 1/3 of his leg, and should certainly yield more lbs of product than 4.

Fourth Place:  4

Entry number:  421

4 is a large framed late maturing modern appearing Southdown.   Unfortunately in reality, he is the poorest balanced and lightest muscled of the three.  He is the stalest appearing, narrowest topped lamb that funnels to his lower leg.  This coupled with him being one of the heavier conditioned lambs in class finds him at the bottom.

Therefore, I am going to count them 1, 2, 3, 4 with cuts of  2, 4, 2.
