Official Placing:  1, 4, 2, 3

Cuts:  2, 7, 1

I found this class to have an easy top pair,1 and 4, and an easy bottom pair,2 and 3.  I placed the class 1, 4, 2, 3 with cuts of 2, 7, 1.

First Place:  1

Entry number:  254

Exhibitor:  RDL

State:  IA

Sheep name/number:  801

Breed:  Cross

I’m starting the class with 1 which I believe is the most complete lamb in the class with the fewest faults. I would like to see a longer side on this lamb, however, the lamb is balanced with level top and bottom lines. I would like to clean it up a little at the points and with a little less depth of front. When viewed from the rear the lamb is wide and flat over the rack and loin, shows a lot of depth of twist with an expressive muscle through the stifle and has a wide pin set.

Second Place:  4

Entry number:  428

Exhibitor:  sweetmnt1

State:  CA

Sheep name/number:  CA711

Breed:  Wether sired

4 is an easy second in the class and places over 2. 4 does have excellent length of side, however, I found this ewe lamb to be a little too deep fronted for me. She does appear to be wide and square over the rack and loin. I would like to raise her dock setting and level her out in the hip. She does have excellent depth of twist and muscle through the stifle.

Third Place:  2

Entry number:  300

The bottom pair, 2 and 3 both have major structural faults. With additional finish I’m sure they will improve in appearance. I do find 2 more correct in top an bottom lines than 3. She does have a sloping hip with a narrow, shallow twist with very little evidence of muscling through the stifle.

Fourth Place:  3

Entry number:  341

I placed 3 at the bottom of the class because she has major structural flaws. She looks to be under-nourished. I’m sure with proper care and nutrition she will improve in appearance.

Again, I placed the class 1, 4, 2, 3 with cuts of 2, 7, 1.
