Official Placing: 4, 3, 2, 1
Cuts: 3, 6, 3

We placed the class of market lambs 4, 3, 2, 1.  We saw this class split up into two pairs.

First Place:  4

591

Entry number: 591

Exhibitor: Syoung6

State: OH

Sheep name/number: 9018

Breed: Suffolk

We like the 4 and 3 lambs as they are the two stouter, more muscular lambs that combine balance and correctness of structure.  We opted to use the added levelness and squareness that 4 possesses, particularly being fuller through his loin and being higher in his pin setting.  He too appears to have an advantage in his base width, having more center body width and expansion.

Second Place:  3

588

Entry number: 588

Exhibitor: prd

State: MO

Sheep name/number: 959

Breed: Crossbred

We admit 3 is cleaner through his chest floor and stands stronger on his front legs.  Yet we faulted 3 and placed him second as he is weaker in his loin and rounder in his tail head.

However, we still preferred the muscularity and balanced look over 2 in our middle pair. 3 is definitely more expressive down his top and is more dimensional through his hip and leg.  3 also is the nicer profiling lamb that is stronger topped and leveler hipped.

Third Place:  2

556

Entry number: 556

We grant that 2 is really long about his front end and heavier boned.  Yet we criticized him and placed him third as he is weak topped, low in his tail set and narrower gauged.

Despite these criticisms, we decided to use the heavier boned and straighter lined, fresher appearing wether over 1 in the bottom pair.  2 does appear to have a fresher handling top, appearing to be fuller over his rack and through his loin.

Fourth Place:  1

548

Entry number: 548

We do see 1 as being longer bodied than 2.  Yet his lack of straightness of lines, stoutness of bone and stale appearance make him last in this class.

Therefore we placed this class 4, 3, 2, 1 with cuts of 3, 6, 3.
