Official Placing: 1, 2, 3, 4
Cuts: 4, 5, 1

I believe the class divides into an easy top pair, 1 and 2, and an easy bottom pair, 3 and 4.  I also believe the 1 lamb separates himself from the remaining 3, therefore, he goes to the top of the class.  I also believe 2 separates himself from the bottom two so he falls into second.  Now, the bottom pair 3 and 4 are entirely different in body type and you can use personal preference in this placing.  I see less faults in 3, therefore, 4 falls to the bottom of the class.

I see the class placing 1, 2, 3, 4  with cuts of 4, 5, 1.

First Place:  1

Entry number: 605

Exhibitor: admoser

State: IA

Sheep name/number: 9140 - Gracie

Breed: crossbred

Website: www.moserclublambs.com

Too me, 1 is an easy first place lamb because he is the most complete lamb in the class. He shows the most style, balance, and structural correctness of the four lambs and he should hang a desirable carcass.

From the side I notice how balanced he is, how straight he is in both his top and bottom lines.  He has correct neck placement and it's long and extended.  He exhibits tremendous length from flank to flank.  He may appear just average in hip length from the side, however, from the rear you can see how long and level he is in the hip.    He is very clean through the front, shallow in depth, but not so shallow it takes away from his muscle.  He may appear a little too flat ribbed, however, he has enough rib shape for his body type.  He also exhibits enough fullness of flank for a lamb that is on the plus side of medium frame.  From the rear view he completely over powers 2 in depth of twist and squareness through the pins and lower leg muscle.

Second Place:  2

Entry number: 607

Exhibitor: HannaKatheryne

State: TX

Sheep name/number: 197

Breed: Hampshire

2 easily falls into second place.  He doesn't have the frame or length of side that 1 has, he does exhibit a little too much depth of chest, roundness at the points, and, from the rear he doesn't exhibit the power of leg muscle as 1. However, with these faults he easily places over 3 for second in the class.

Third Place:  3

Entry number: 608

The bottom pair, 3 and 4, is a toss-up.  I went with the lamb with the most frame and is cleaner in muscle type, therefore, I placed 3 over 4.  3 does have length of side.  He is pretty long and level in both top and bottom lines.  He is pretty balanced in comparing his front end to his back end, however, he is just too narrow based to get any higher in the class. Although you cannot see him over the rack and loin you can safely assume he is narrow over those areas.  He also lacks the required bone we expect in a good slaughter lamb.  He does not have adequate depth of twist, width through the pins, and exhibits very little inner/outer lower leg muscle.

Fourth Place:  4

Entry number: 614

Exhibitor: ClubLamb440

State: IN

Sheep name/number: Prince

Breed: Natural

4 drops to the bottom of the class because he is short sided, low side of medium frame, appears to be rough in muscle design and coarse hide.  He does not exhibit any evidence of muscle through the leg.

Again, I placed the class 1, 2, 3,4 with cuts of 4, 5, 1.

Okay.  I've told you how I see the class and why.  Now, it's your turn... Hammer away... OG
