Official Placing: 1, 3, 2, 4
Cuts: 3, 5, 6

We placed this class of ewe lambs 1, 3, 2, 4.  Right away we noticed a definite top pair an easy third and obvious bottom.

First Place:  1

Entry number: 568

Exhibitor: Kingsflock

State: MD

Sheep name/number: 221

Breed: Hampshire

Website: www.kingshowlambs.com

In the top pair of the two wider based, structurally sounder, heavier muscled, white pelted ewes we opted to use the ewe that is longer bodied and leveler out her hip.

Second Place:  3

Entry number: 618

Exhibitor: Shelbysue

State: OH

Sheep name/number: Maya

Breed: Crossbred

We do appreciate 3 for being stout featured and broody in her appearance, however falls short as she is shorter coupled and rounder hipped.

When comparing our middle pair, we do have two ewes that are different in their type and kind.  3 has the advantage of having a more correct set to her legs, being stronger on her pasterns and appears to have a better set to her hock.  She too is higher volumed, being deeper bodied and more uniform in her body depth.  In addition she is heavier boned and thicker when viewed from behind.

Third Place:  2

Entry number: 613
Exhibitor: ClubLamb440
State: IN
Sheep name/number: Velvet
Breed: Suffolk/Natural

We grant 2 is longer bodied, yet faulted her and placed her third as she is narrower based, higher in her rear flank, finer boned, sickle hocked and weaker on her pasterns.

Despite these criticisms, we still used her over 4 in our bottom pair of the Suffolk based ewe lambs.  2 is better balanced as she is smoother shouldered, stronger topped and leveler out her dock.  She too has the advantage in length of body and maturity.

Fourth Place:  4

Entry number: 622

We can admit 4 does have some shape to her leg, but faulted the longest docked ewe lamb and placed her last as she is fine boned and is the poorest balanced, being coarse shouldered, weak topped and round hipped.

Therefore we placed this class 1, 3, 2, 4 with cuts of 3, 5, 6.
