Cuts: 6, 3, 3

We placed the class of ewe lambs 4, 1, 2, 3.

First Place:  4

Entry number: 649

Exhibitor: Arlambs

State: AR

Sheep name/number: 1001

Breed: Cross

Website: www.cgfarms.homestead.com

We started the nicest profiling, straightest lined ewe lamb that most effectively combines muscle and correctness of structure.  We thought she separated herself from the rest of her competition quite easily.  As we compare her to 1, she is easily the more correctly made ewe lamb that is more parallel in her lines.  More specifically she is stronger topped and leveler hipped.  She too for her size has more expression of muscle, particularly through her hip and lower leg.

Second Place:  1

Entry number: 569

Exhibitor: Kingsflock

State: MD

Sheep name/number: 223

Breed: Cross

Website: www.kingshowlambs.com

We do see 1 as being a functional type of ewe lamb that is very wide based and broody in her appearance.  However we got critical of her as she is broke behind her shoulder and rounded out her hip more than we would like.

Despite these criticisms, we liked 1 over 2 in our middle pair.  1 has the advantage of being the more powerfully constructed, wider based ewe lamb that has more muscle.  She too is neater about her front end, being smoother and cleaner through her chest floor. Now we can only speculate as to the structure on the rear view as it was cut off.

Third Place:  2

Entry number: 624

We do admit 2 is leveler out her hip than 1, yet faulted her as she is narrower based, deeper in her chest, and hocked in on her hind legs.

Even so we used 2 over 3 in our bottom pair of the two poorer structured ewe lambs.  2 is leveler and squarer out of her dock and appears to be the longer bodied ewe lamb of the pair.

Fourth Place:  3

Entry number: 639

Without a doubt, 3 looks to be stouter featured, being shaggier legged.  However, it is shorter bodied, rounder hipped and hocked in when viewed from behind.

Therefore we placed the class 4, 1, 2, 3 with cuts 6, 3, 3.
