Official Placing: 1, 4, 3, 2
Cuts: 5, 2, 6

We placed this class of ram lambs 1, 4, 3, 2. We started right off seeing an easy winner, an easy bottom and a middle pair that was closer to place.

First Place:  1

Entry number: 619

Exhibitor: classic1112

State: OH

Sheep name/number: #11

Breed: Crossbred

The buck lamb that starts is the most structurally correct, heaviest boned, and is the nicest patterned of the four.  Realizing he could be smoother through his lower portion of his shoulder, we thought he still offered the right look.

As you study 1 over 4, he is more correct out of his hip, being leveler out through his dock.  He also has the advantage of being sounder on his feet and legs, as he stands stronger on his pasterns.

Second Place:  4

Entry number: 688

Exhibitor: cmdown

State: IN

Sheep name/number: 005

Breed: Crossbred

We do see the sheared buck lamb being smoother through his lower shoulder, however get critical of him as he is lower docked and weaker on his pasterns.

Despite these criticisms, we chose to use the smoother patterned buck lamb, 4, over 3 in our middle pair.  He is definitely straighter in his top line, as he is flatter across his top and hooks up better in his hip loin junction.  He also is the neater shouldered ram lamb of the pair.

Third Place:  3

Entry number: 667

Some would argue the point of 3 being the heaviest muscled and being more correct on his feet than 4 and we acknowledge this, however we faulted him as he coarser in his shoulder, roached in his top and weak in his loin.

Even so, 3 is a buck lamb we would prefer to use over 2.  3 offers so much more width, muscle shape and correctness in terms of his levelness of hip and turn to his rib.

Fourth Place:  2

Entry number: 651

The crossbred appearing lamb is long necked and has some stoutness of bone, but he is the narrowest made, lightest muscled, coarsest made lamb that is out in his shoulder and round in his hip.

Therefore we placed this class 1, 4, 3, 2 with cuts of 5, 2, 6.
