In a top pair of similarly designed wethers, 3 is simply more shapely and expressively muscled when compared to 2. Ideally the class winner could be neater about the floor of his chest and points of his shoulders. Still he is wider, squarer racked, longer hipped and hindsaddled. Most importantly, he wraps the most muscle around a big boned forearm, is deeper twisted and better maintains his power through the lower 1/3 of his leg.

From the profile, 2 is just as impressive in regards to length of neck and side, and is actually cleaner fronted. Unfortunately, from the rear he lacks the expression of the class winner so he is second. In a close middle pair of differing wethers, I opt to use his added length of loin, stoutness of bone and overall body length to edge out 1.

Some may prefer the added muscle shape of 1 and I’ll be the first to admit he is the bigger legged lamb of the middle pair, however he is simply too coupled and jammed up from the profile to top either of the later maturing, long sided initial duo. Yet based on his added bloom, condition and muscle, he works his way over 4 in the bottom pair. 1 is much flatter and wider over his rack and loin, wider and fuller out of his upper dock, and much thicker throughout all aspects of his leg.

Now, I really appreciate the rib design and level look of 4 on the profile and compliment the long level hip that accentuates this. Yet in reality he is the lightest finished lamb in the class that lacks the bloom, muscle shape and expression to overwhelm any of his contemporaries. I predict with more time on feed he could change drastically, yet as presented in the photos, he is too raw and green to compete with the one placed ahead of him so he is last.
