Class number:  185        Class Date:  4/23/11

Judge:   Vance Christie

 Judging Contest Winners:

Under 15: chickenandsheepgirl

15-18: duck213

Over 18: scootermagoo

Official Placing: 1, 3, 4, 2
Cuts: 3, 2, 2

Please note judgers that it is very difficult to sort lambs in various stages of wool length, so if you struggle with this one, so did I. I like this class of prospects 1, 3, 4, 2, and going to cut them 3, 2, 2.

First Place:  1

Entry number: 301

Exhibitor: 2TLivestock

State: NE

Sheep name/number: Over

Breed: Suffolk/Hampshire

1 is simply the coolest fronted, longest sided, most expressively muscled lamb in the class.  Sure she could stand to be a little straighter from her hock to the ground from the rear, and appears to be a little raw in her condition.  Yet in comparison to the dark pelted wether, she is longer necked, smoother shouldered and tucked neater in her breast plate.  She is extremely wedged through her front end and progressively widens through her loin and out through her dock.  As a bonus, she is tremendously explosive through all aspects of her leg.

Second Place:  3

Entry number: 789

Exhibitor: sheepnpygs

State: OH

Sheep name/number: Pr37

Breed: Natural

Website: www.charlenesclublambs.com

3 is flatter and leveler out of his dock and appears to be thick ended, however he does not have the extension of neck and front end to edge the slick shorn ewe in the top pair.

In a close middle pair, primarily his added depth of twist and power through the lower third of his leg gives him a slight advantage over the other ewe lamb in class.  Additionally, 3 appears to spread more width and expression all the way down his topline.

Third Place:  4

Entry number: 832
Exhibitor: EmsoffLambs
State: CA
Sheep name/number: 233
Breed: Suffolk/Hampshire
Website: www.emsofflivestockcompany.com

No doubt that 4 is more attractive on the profile with more elevation through the floor of her chest and is straighter in her lines than either of the two that place ahead of her.  Unfortunately she does not have the muscle shape or expression from the rear of the top two so I opt to leave her third.

Still, in comparison to 2, she provides a better show-ring look, as she is longer and smoother in her muscle pattern, lays in smoother at the point of her shoulder, and is leveler and squarer out of her dock.

Fourth Place:  2

Entry number: 673
Exhibitor: babyewe
State: Co
Sheep name/number: Tweedle

2 is going to be an extremely thick wether with lots of product, however in reality, he is the coarsest designed in the class, short sided, round off both ends of his skeleton and the frailest in his bone work, so he is last.
