Official Placing: 4, 3, 2, 1
Cuts: 1, 2, 2,

First, I would like to say each of these lambs have several good qualities.  Sure, I would have liked for lamb 1 to have been slick shorn, however, you just have to analyze him a little longer then everything starts falling into place.

I’m placing the class 4, 3, 2, 1 with cuts of 1, 2, 2.

First Place:  4

Entry number: 856

Exhibitor: lm1668

Sheep name/number: 43

Breed: cross

In starting the class with 4 I’m starting with the obvious power sheep of the class, especially when viewed from the rear.  This medium plus framed ewe lamb with the extended neck that could be placed a little higher shows balance in her lines.  She exhibits length in her rack, loin and hip.  Sure, I would like to raise the dock a tad.  She is clean in the brisket, ties in correct at the points, and exhibits thickness from front to rear, especially when viewed from the rear.  She has proper rib shape that would suggest a big rack and loin.  When viewed from the rear she is the widest over the rack and loin of any lamb in the class.  She appears deep at loin edge, deep in the twist, excellent through the stifle and lower third.  She is especially wide through the pins and strong in her pasterns.

Second Place:  3

In placing number 3 second in the class I’m going with a lamb that will get your attention, especially when viewed on the profile.  He is balanced, however, I would like to raise his neck placement.  This medium plus framed lamb has a long rack, loin, and hip, however, I would like to raise his dock at least an inch.  I believe he will have enough rib shape when he matures, however, right now that is a question mark.  He appears clean in the front, however, the handler has that area covered up, therefore, I’m just assuming.
From the rear I believe he will be moderately thick over the rack and loin, however, he does  not exhibit as much thickness in these areas as the first place lamb.  He does stand correct on his feet and legs.

Third Place:  2

Entry number: 833

My bottom pair, 2 and 1, gave me the most problems as they are completely opposite in body type.  When I look at them from the profile, 2 sure has a more complete profile than 1.  He is long and level in his top lines.  He is long in his rack, loin, and, extremely long and level in his hip.  He is on the verge of being too deep in his shoulder, however I do see some rib shape.

When viewed from the rear, I question if he will have enough thickness over his rack and loin to be a major player.  I would call him average in depth of twist and lacking in lower leg muscle.

Fourth Place:  1

Entry number: 810

Now, to the forth place lamb, number 1.  From the profile, comparing him to the other three lambs in the class, he looks short sided.  He does show some balance, however he does have a sloping hip.  he has the rib shape we want today, and, when viewed from the rear, he might be the second thickest lamb in the class, however, hard to tell through all the wool.  I  would like to see him stronger in his pasterns.

Again, I placed the class 4, 3, 2, 1 with cuts of 1, 2, 2.
