Exhibitors, please remember that showmanship is much more based on personal preferences than what is typically set on a basic set of standards in a live animal evaluation.  With that in mind, my comments and placings certainly could vary with a different judge.  I am also one that if you ever have the opportunity to show to me, probably the one that wins showmanship is not overly flashy, does not do a great deal to draw attention to themselves, and you typically do not have to do extra things that would not normally be done in the regular show ring.  Often times I comment to me the best showman is the one that does the best job getting the basics done so that that lamb has a better shot to win the class or get in the sale at a major or State Fair, not the one doing all the extra or silly moves.  Remember this is my preference and there are showmanship judges that are on the opposite end of that spectrum.

I like the showmanship class 4, 1, 2, 3 and if you have to place cuts on it which I guess I do, 2, 2, 7 will work.

First Place:  4

Entry number: 943

Exhibitor: thadlo

4 is the most solid exhibitor in all views.  His lamb is squarer on all four in the three photos, he is driving hard enough in the 1st, is upright and correct in his body position in the second, and has the lambs rear legs in the best position in the rear photo.

Second Place:  1

Entry number: 544

Exhibitor: carterfam

1 is probably getting more drive out of her lamb in the initial photo, but I am not a fan of bending over on the front view, and the lamb is set a little wide on his hind two in the rear photo.  Still I like the more aggressive posture in all three photos in a close middle pair of exhibitors.  She is pushing much harder in the first and third picture, has the rear legs set squarer, and is holding the lamb's head slightly more straight on the front view.

Third Place:  2

Entry number: 547

2 is more upright in his posture from the front, however does not appear to be pushing this lamb as hard and has the legs a little more out of square and too much twist in the front end of this ewe in the front picture.  Still he is more in front of his lamb in and in better position than 3 in the profile picture, is using the correct leg to brace in the rear view picture and at least not trying to ride his lamb in the front view.

Fourth Place:  3

Entry number: 875

I hope 3 had a good time and learned a lot with this lamb, or is still learning a lot.  These are some good photos to learn from.  On the profile, she needs to be more in front of this lamb with her left thigh pressed deeper into this lamb's chest.  Never ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, climb over, go behind or climb under your lamb.  Simply switch sides gracefully in front of the sheep so you can maintain better control.  If she was on the side of this lamb, his front legs are still too splayed.   I also prefer exhibitors that always brace with the left leg.  I know a lot switch legs if the judge goes to the right side of their lamb and certainly do not discount those exhibitors that do , but I do not feel this is necessary.  I do however feel in the rear photo, this exhibitor certainly is showing from the off side and should have the other thigh laid into this lamb and pushing much harder just as I stated about the profile photo.
