Over 18: Lucy, lm1668, PeteM, DonD1

Official Placing: 4-1-2-3
Cuts: 2-3-2

In my opinion, a tough class to sort. Differences in type and differences in photography styles make this a very challenging class. However, the official placing is 4-1-2-3, with cuts of 2-3-2.

First Place:  4

Entry number: 988

Exhibitor: PeteM

State: OK

Sheep name/number: Davis 0425 Trixie

Breed: Hampshire

Website: www.mphclublambs.com

4 is the ewe that suits me as being a well-balanced, correctly-made ewe that offers the most quality from the profile. She is a straight topped female that excels the class in length and levelness of rump while still being adequate in her width and shape of muscle. Ideally, she could be shallower in her chest and stouter in her bonework.

Second Place:  1

Entry number: 904

Exhibitor: DonD1

State: MN

Sheep name/number: Drewry 10501

Breed: Hampshire X

Website: myplace.frontier.com/~don.drewry/index.html

1 is the ewe that most closely follows 4 from a design standpoint. She is correct in her topline and maintains good depth from forerib to flank. From the rear view, she appears to have plenty of width down her top and through her leg. She is a ewe that needs more length of body and rump, and like the first place ewe, needs to be stouter structured.

Third Place:  2

Entry number: 980

2 is a ewe that I would like to see from a better camera angle. She certainly has many of the pieces I like, yet poses some problems at the same time. She is neat and shallow in her chest and progressively deepens in her body and flank. She is excellent in her length of body and very smooth shouldered. From the rear, she shows as much evidence of muscling as any ewe in the class. To move up in placing, she needs to be taller at point of shoulder, smoother in her hip-loin transition, and fuller at her dock.

Fourth Place:  3

Entry number: 986

Exhibitor: animalluv34

State: TX

Sheep name/number: Bella(Y951)

Breed: Hampshire

Website: www.esmondclublambs.web.officelive.com

3 is a big-bodied, productive appearing sheep. From the rear, she resembles the #2 ewe in that she is thick and full from her rump to her lower leg. She needs to balance better from the profile to make her more competitive in this class. A stronger, straighter topline and a longer, more level rump would move her up the line some.
