Official Placing: 3-1-2-4
Cuts: 5-1-2

I believe this class has an easy placing for first, a close middle pair of entirely different type ewe lambs, and a bottom ewe lamb that does have several good traits as a possible brood ewe. I see the class placing 3-1-2-4 with cuts of 5-1-2.

First Place:  3

Entry number: 1044

Exhibitor: Lambboy

State: UT

Sheep name/number: McKoy

Breed: Hampshire X

3 wins the class with ease as the most balanced, complete ewe prospect of the four. Long neck squarely placed, extremely balanced in relation of front to hip/loin/top of rear flank, correct at the points, proper bone dimension and stands correct on feet and legs. From the profile she exhibits length, rib shape, fullness of flank and level top line.

From the rear she exhibits width of rack and loin, with a long level hip , width through the pins, depth of twist and muscle in the lower third. She is an excellent brood ewe prospect.

Second Place:  1

Entry number: 1001

Exhibitor: PeteM

State: OK

Sheep name/number: HR Mapels 11-204K Flo

Breed: Hampshire

The challenging placing is the middle pair which features two ewe lambs of completely opposite type. I chose to go with 1 over 2 because she is just a powerful made ewe lamb that projects a lot of broodiness. Her long neck is properly placed and she is clean in the brisket, smooth at the points, level topped, correct rib shape with a lot of fullness of rear flank. She is long and level in her top line, has adequate bone and correct on her feet and legs. I will grant she is a little too deep in depth of shoulder.

From the rear she is correct over the shoulder, wide and level over the rack and loin and wide through the pins with a lot of twist depth and muscle. Bred to a clean fronted skeletally correct ram with style she could prove to be a great producer of competitive type lambs.

Third Place:  2

Entry number: 1031

2 places third in the class, however, she has a lot of positive traits associated with keeper ewe lambs. She has the long neck which I like. True, it might be placed a little too low, however, she is balanced, clean fronted, clean at the points. She could use a little more bone dimension and she may be a little weak in her rear pasterns, however, she has rib shape and fullness in the rear flank.

From the rear she is correct over the rack and loin, just not as wide topped as the second place ewe, number 1. She has proper pin placement, is moderate in depth of twist and I would like to see a little more muscle in the lower third.

Fourth Place:  4

Entry number: 1045

4 goes to the bottom of the class. The long neck is properly placed, however, she is short sided, short hipped that slopes to the dock and a little to round at the points.

From the rear she does appear to be wide over the rack and loin with depth of twist and muscle in the lower third. Dhe just has too many negatives to move up in the class, however, bred to a structurally correct ram with muscle she could produce marketable lambs.

Again, I placed the class 3-1-2-4 with cuts of 5-1-2. Comments are appreciated....OG
