Official Placing: 2-3-4-1
Cuts: 4-2-2

In a class with a great deal of differences in types and kinds of prospects, placing my emphasis on the factors that would determine which lamb I would prefer to have in our barn, I like the prospect market lambs 2-3-4-1 with cuts of 4-2-2.

First Place:  2

Entry number: 1064

Exhibitor: lm1668

State: OH

Sheep name/number: 729

Breed: Crossbred

Website: www.meyersshowlambs.com

2 is the logical place to start as the levelest, squarest designed wether best combines structural correctness, muscle and rib design. The lightest conditioned lamb in the class appears to be the one that will feed into a thick made, big rack and loined wether that should be the biggest hipped and most powerfully legged at his terminal endpoint.

Second Place:  3

Entry number: 1066

Exhibitor: Sheepsnpygs

State: OH

Sheep name/number: Homer

Breed: Suffolk

There is no doubt that 3 is pounds heavier and further along in his feeding phase, however coupled with that, he is frailer in his rib and bone work, shorter coupled and rounder muscled so he is second.

Still I use his advantages in pin set, depth of twist and lateness of maturity that allows him to edge 4 in a contrasting middle pair. 3 is also better in his neck set, more nearly level out of his dock and longer spined.

Third Place:  4

Entry number: 1087
State: CA
Sheep name/number: 301
Breed: Hampshire

Some may prefer the added turn to the Hampshire appearing ewe lamb’s ribcage and the fact that she is pushed higher through the floor of her chest. Unfortunately she is extremely full in the photo eluding to her being short sided and quicker patterned and to add to this she appears to taper too much from hooks to pins.

Yet her levelness and strength of topline and hip give her an advantage over the dark fibered ewe in the concluding pair. As a bonus she appears to be more shapely over her rack and deeper and fuller through the lower 1/3 of her leg.

Fourth Place:  1

Entry number: 1041

Now I’ll be the first to admit the blue ewe is the largest outlined and shows some turn and expression to her loin and width through her center leg in the rear shot, yet in reality, she is too slack in her spine, round in her muscle pattern, too frail in her rib and drawn in her flank to excel in this class, so she is last. Thank You.
