Ewe Lambs 2-4 months

Class number:  250        Class Date:  11/17/12

Judge:   Gail Christian

Judging Contest Winners:

Under 15: JakeRichardson

15-18: kfaulk

Over 18: Chuckles450, Shadowran, sheepsim

Official Placing: 2-3-1-4
Cuts: 3-1-2

This is a difficult class to evaluate because of the numerous differences in type of the ewe lambs in the class. I see the class as placing 2-3-1-4 with cuts of 3-1-2.

First Place:  2

Entry number: 1089

Exhibitor: SnarkieArkie

State: AR

Sheep name/number: 1208

Breed: Cross

Website: www.cgfarms.homestead.com

Since 2 is the lamb in the class that combines balance, style, structural correctness more correctly than the other three she starts the class. On the profile I would like to raise the neck set just a tad, however, the long neck suggests long rack, loin, and hip, so I will overlook this minor flaw. She is clean at the points, correct in shoulder depth, long sided, long rack, loin, long level hipped. Her rib shape is correct for this body type.

From the rear I would like to add width over her correctly shaped rack that ties in correct with the shoulder. She has proper loin shape and has width at the pins with correct muscle shape, size, and dimension. Breed her to a structurally correct power ram and she will produce very competitive lambs.

Second Place:  3

Entry number: 1091

Exhibitor: animalluv34

State: TX

Sheep name/number: J-Lo

Breed: Suffolk/Hampshire

Website: Esmond Club Lambs on Facebook

3 moves into second place and over number 1 primarily from being superior in the rear view over the shape and width over the rack and loin and superior leg muscle. From the profile I would like to smooth her out at the hip/loin juncture, correct her roundness at the points and level her top line, however, from the rear she simply over powers the third place ewe lamb, number 1.

Third Place:  1

Entry number: 1034

1 would be easier to evaluate if she was set up on the ground instead of the blocking table. On the profile I notice the long neck, however, like ewe 2 it could be placed a tad higher on top of the shoulder. She is a little to prominent at the points. She does have a long level top with correct rib shape.

From the rear she is too narrow over the rack and loin and her loin edge needs to be raised. She is adequate in depth of twist, however,I would appreciate more muscle in the lower third.

Fourth Place:  4

Entry number: 1096

4 is so full it makes her hard to evaluate. From the profile she has the most correct neck placement in the class. She is long spined, however, her dock needs to be raised as this would level out her hip. She is correct at the points, is balanced, does have rib shape and fullness of flank.

From the rear she is narrow over the rack and slopes over the loin. I would like to see more bulge through the stifle and add depth to her twist.

Again, I placed the class 2-3-1-4 with cuts of 3-1-2. Your comments are both welcomed and appreciated......OG
