Official Placing: 1-2-3-4
Cuts: 2-2-2

In another challenging class of ewe lambs, I like them 1-2-3-4 with cuts of 2-2-2.

First Place:  1

Entry number: 1124

Exhibitor: tripjsheep

State: UT

Sheep name/number: 3036g

Breed: Hampshire X

Website: www.triplejclublambs.com

1 is simply the most fault free of an excellent set of ewe lambs. She is more ideal in her rib design and wider based, allowing her to carry more width and dimension to the top of her skeleton. Consequently, she is more opened up in her pin set and wider across the top of her dock. Her design allows me to believe that she would be an easy feeding lamb that could excel in market or breeding classes alike.

Second Place:  2

Entry number: 1141

Exhibitor: DonD1

State: MN

Sheep name/number: 13832

Website: myplace.frontier.com/~don.drewry/index.html

Sure 2 is late maturing and long and extended about her front end while appearing longer hindsaddled in the profile pict. Unfortunately she is shallower ribbed and does not blend as well down her topline. Still it is her added muscle shape and expression that allows her to edge out 3 in the middle pair. She is more opened up behind her blades and more elevated in her rack shape. As a bonus she shows more outside leg shape and depth of twist.

Third Place:  3

Entry number: 1144
State: CA
Sheep name/number: 344
Breed: Hampshire
Website: www.emsofflivestockcompany.com

Now I’ll be the first to admit that 3 is striking from the side with some added quality though her front end. However she lacks the power and mass of the top two so I leave her third. However in a bottom pair of lighter constructed ewe lambs, her balance and eye appeal give her the edge over 4. She is flatter and smoother at the point of her shoulder, more uniform in her body depth, bolder in her forerib and deeper flanked. In addition she is more shapely down her top and appears to be a little heavier in her condition.

Fourth Place:  4

Entry number: 1147

4 is truly long patterned, wide based and probably the largest framed, latest maturing in the class, however she is currently the rawest in her condition, somewhat plain in her muscle design and it is difficult to get a true read on her top shape from the photos presented, so she is last.
