Official Placing: 1-3-2-4
Cuts: 7-3-1

I see this as a two pair class, 1 and 3 at the top and 2 and 4 at the bottom. I placed the class 1-3-2-4 with cuts of 7-3-1.

First Place:  1

Entry number: 1149

Exhibitor: SoccerLamb

State: CA

Sheep name/number: Yahtzee

Breed: Hamp/Suffolk

1 rises to the top of the class in an easy placing. He is easily the most complete lamb in the class that shows the most balance, style, and smoothness and mass of muscle. From the profile I would like to raise the neck placement just a little, however, if the neck was fully extended I doubt I would even notice this minor flaw. One does have to appreciate the long level top line including the long level hip. I would like to smooth him at the points as he is a little too rounded. I would also like to ‘tuck up” the chest floor a little. One look at the massive forearm and you know when viewed from the rear he will excel anything in the class over his rack and loin with both width and flatness in these areas. I would call him medium plus in frame and when he fully develops I believe he will have the rib shape we desire as he is already correct in his fullness of flank, but, today, he is a little flat sided. Again, at a heavier slaughter weight this will not be a problem. From the rear he is wide and flat over the rack and loin and he gets progressively wider in these areas as you travel down the spine. He is long and level in his hip, square at the dock with excellent depth of twist, and, as he develops he will have plenty of muscle through the stifle as well as the inner leg. He stands excellent on his feet and legs. He’s a real good prospect that should be competitive in the show ring as well as hanging on the rail.

Second Place:  3

In placing 3 second in the class and over number 2, I do primarily because of his superior skeletal structure and muscle design. From the profile 3 is a medium framed lamb with a level top line that matches his frame. He possible is a little round at the points and he needs to be tucked up in his chest floor. He does have superior rib shape with fullness of flank when compared to the lambs placing below him. From the rear I would like to add width and flatness to both the rack and loin area, but, he does appear square in the dock, moderate in depth of twist and leg muscle. He is long and level in his hip and stands correct on his feet and legs. He is an easy second place lamb in this class.

Third Place:  2

Entry number: 1153

Although 2 is incorrect in his skeletal structure I’m placing him third in the class and over 4 because I believe he will hang a more desirable carcass than the “soft” appearing 4. 2 is on the minus side of medium frame. He is coarse through the shoulder, short sided, and, has a sloping hip. He is too deep fronted, but, does have correct rib shape. He appears to be a little weak in his pasterns. From the rear he shows more muscle pattern over his rack and loin than 4. He is square at the dock, has moderate twist depth, with adequate muscle.

Fourth Place:  4

Entry number: 1185

In dropping 4 to the bottom of the class I do so because he is too coarse in muscle type, structurally deficient, with too much depth of front. He is rounded at the points, short necked, but is long sided. From the rear he does not have proper shape over the rack, loin and hip and slightly pinches at the pins. He is moderate in twist depth, flat through the stifle and appears “soft” in his finish which will become a problem when fed to heavier weights.

Again, I placed the class 1-3-2-4 with cuts of 7-3-1 My wife, grandson, and I have gone to Oahu, Hawaii on vacation, however, I will enjoy reading your comments when we return. Aloha...OG
