In a close top pair I started with the lamb that I felt was the biggest at the top of his hip and showed the most natural muscle shape, especially when viewed from behind. I felt he had the added advantage of being laid in nicer through his shoulder than 4. He combines that with being a very nicely balanced lamb that is very level down his top line.

As I compare him to 4 I would like to see him be slightly stouter boned and stand squarer on his rear legs when viewed from behind.

Second Place:  (4)

4 is a very square made, wide based sheep that I really like for his roundness and depth of body. In addition he is very square and full on the top side of his hip. However, he is rounder at the point of his shoulder and doesn’t have as much muscle expression as 4, especially through the center and lower portion of his leg.

Sheep name/number: #253 "Commotion"
Breed: Hampshire

3 is a tall fronted ram lamb who ties in very nicely at the top of his shoulder. He combines that with being very correct down his top line and smooth in his lines. Compared to 4 I prefer the foot size and circumference of bone on 3. I would like to see him deeper into his rear flank and when I analyze him along with the two ram lambs above him I think he needs to be bigger hipped and have more natural muscle dimension throughout.

Fourth Place:  1

Entry number: 1536

Exhibitor: Purdygood

State: OK

Sheep name/number: Rebel #481

Breed: Crossbred

1 I can appreciate for his overall length of body, but he is deeper in his chest floor and his neck set is too low and incorrect. He combines that with being very round in his shoulder as well in his hip and when you view him from behind he appears to want to get outside of his skeleton structurally.
