I started the class with the most complete, fault free ewe lamb that offers the most in terms of overall balance and structural correctness. When compared to 4 her neck comes out of the top of her shoulder at a more correct angle and she is laid in smoother in her front end. She combines that with having a more desirable rear leg set, especially when you view her from behind.

4 is more correct in her rib shape and shallower through her chest floor when we compare her to 2 but she is also not as smooth down her topline and wants to get a little outside of herself on those rear hocks. However, she easily excels over the bottom pair because she is more appealing in her design, correct in her topline and has a more desirable muscle shape.

In a closer bottom pair of ewe lambs I chose 3 because of her overall length of body, width of skeleton and squareness of hip when viewed from behind. If I were to correct this ewe I would like to make her better in her loin, transition from her neck to her shoulder better and just give her more overall stoutness all the way through.

I chose to round out the class with 1, who I can appreciate for her balance of lines from front to back as well as being slightly fresher in her appearance than 3. But, she is also extremely round in her shoulder, steep out of her rump and is very hocked in when viewed from behind.
